How Organic Bentonite Enhances Coatings and Paints

The Organic bentonite is produced by modifying sodium bentonite clay with organic cations, replacing the naturally occurring sodium or calcium ions. This modification enhances compatibility with organic solvents, resins, and oils, making it highly effective in non-aqueous systems.

The production process involves dispersing bentonite in water, adding quaternary ammonium compounds, followed by filtration, drying, and milling. The final product has excellent thixotropic properties, meaning it can form gels in organic liquids while maintaining ease of application.

Innovations in processing aim to improve purity, reduce energy consumption, rheology modifier, drilling mud additive, organoclay thickener, paint and coating additive, suspension stabilizer and produce tailored grades for specialized industries such as high-performance coatings, lubricants, and cosmetics. Advanced surface modification techniques are also being developed to expand the functional properties of organic bentonite.
